How to drag an icon into hard disc on mac os x?

this is my first time ever using a mac and i dont know much about them. i downloaded a game and it says to install, drag the icon to your hard disc. i have no idea where the hard disc is. i went to macintosh HD and then applications and dragged it there but nothing has happened
