PC or Mac laptops? Which is better for undergrad studies?

I own and currently use a Home PC Windows XP. Completely unreliable so Im looking at laptops for school, but can't really choose between a Macintosh or Windows 7. Price is definitely a a factor and it's whats stopping me from purchasing a MAC.Im a going to be a Freshman College student so in terms for "getting the job done" is better? Tuition is already a strain on me. I'll purchase a MAC notebook if it can survive undergrad and graduate school studies..
