PC games now all going digital?

Games have to be downloaded from now on? I've heard from a local business owner they've halted all production of PC and Macintosh video games on compact disks. The warehouses are selling inventory, and that's it. Have to buy it again after the hard drive goes out. Maybe get a two time install, but after that, $70+$70+$70.......
